Moab d4: Slickrock

MTB Travel

Tis true, today PK and I rode the famed slickrock trail. Or to be more accurate, rode and hiked it. Those who mountain bike have likely read that the traction on the slickrock is uneblievable. Well it's true. It is truly astonishing what you can climb without spinning the wheels, and equally astounding how you can traverse a slope on the side knobs of your tires. In some ways it makes you feel like spidey. Technically, other than the climbs which are really just brute force and ignorance there is little technically to worry about. Descents on slickrock are straightforward, but I think that might be due to how different they are from the North Shore back home. We cleared the trail incl practice loop in 2hrs:49mins. A good effort for day one and likely with a change to the gearing on my bike we could nail it quicker (PK cleaned pretty much everything)...not to mention a slight fitness issue on my part. Thankfully the weather was on the overcast and cooler side too, would be tough goin with a strong sun beating down on ye, this pasty white scotsman is not afterall born in warmer climes. Tomorrow porcupine rim and LBS beckons, gluttons for punishment, I likely deserve it for a series of months sitting on the sofa watching 24 !! We are told that LBS will suit our more downhill tendancies, we shall see. Regardless, it is looking like Moab could be the biking mecca it is reported to be.

Back at the house, which is rather nice btw, Miss W spent the day recovering from 20+ hours dehydrating in an air conditioned car, perhaps also suffering a bit from the altitude. Tomorrow the Moab golf course will be shreded as she takes to the greens though. The tee is booked, I hope Moab is ready for us!

Other aspects of today included refusal at an off license due to not carrying passports. Idiots. A fine BBQ made up for that and we shall all be off for some karaoke tonight.
